Rabat – In the early hours of Saturday, a massive fire broke out in a warehouse located within the wholesale vegetable and fruit market in the Sidi Ghanem area of Marrakech.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the fire has caused significant material losses, sending clouds of thick smoke into the air.
The incident has prompted an urgent response from various authorities, with the Civil Protection services racing against time to contain the rapidly spreading flames, especially given the soaring temperatures.
The warehouse, known for storing crates of fresh produce, was engulfed in flames, which was a challenge for the firefighters and emergency personnel to extinguish.
Their primary focus was to prevent it from spreading to nearby structures, considering the high-risk nature of the location.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and no casualties have been reported as of now.
Local residents in the vicinity were evacuated as a precautionary measure, while the authorities worked to bring the situation under control.
The intense heat, fueled by the summer weather, has made firefighting efforts more challenging.
Videos and photos of the fire have surfaced on the internet, capturing the intensity of the blaze.
A similar incident took place on Thursday evening in Casablanca where a fire broke out in buildings selling furniture, leather goods, and wood products.
The fire caused material damage to 11 of the 26 premises, according to a preliminary assessment. However, no injuries or casualties were reported.
Authorities have opened an investigation to learn about the circumstances of the incident.
