Rabat – The Morocco-Liberia match, to be played on the final day of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, has been rescheduled for October 17 at the Grand Stade d’Agadir, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced on its website on Monday.

The match is part of the final day of the AFCON qualifiers due to take place in Côte d’Ivoire’s capital Abidjan between January 13 and February 11 of next year.

Last March, the Moroccan national team officially qualified for the CAN finals following a 2-2 draw between South Africa and Liberia in Group K.

The national team had beaten both South Africa 2-1 and Liberia 2-0 in the two previous rounds of Group K, which was reduced to three teams following Zimbabwe’s suspension by the International Football Federation (FIFA).

On September 21, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the 24 teams that have qualified for the upcoming AFCON, namely Côte d’Ivoire (host), Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Cameroon, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Egypt, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Tanzania, Gambia, Tunisia, and Zambia.

The CAN draw will take place in Abidjan on October 12.

Originally scheduled to take place on September 9, this match had to be canceled due to a powerful earthquake that struck the Moroccan region of Al Haouz onSeptember 8.
The magnitude 6.8 earthquake has claimed the lives of approximately 3,000 people and injured more 5000.
