FC Barcelona has officially sent a proposal to Manchester City for Joao Cancelo, the 29-year-old Portuguese full-back. The proposal is for a loan without an option to buy, and Barcelona aims to secure Cancelo’s services without paying a loan fee.
FC Barcelona has taken a step towards acquiring Joao Cancelo from Manchester City by submitting a formal proposal. The offer is for a loan deal without any obligation to purchase the player. Barcelona is eager to bring the Portuguese full-back on board but is looking to avoid any upfront payment for the loan.
According to Mundo Deportivo, this move had been in the works for some time, with agent Jorge Mendes and Deco informing Manchester City about the Blaugrana’s potential offer. However, the official paperwork from Barcelona was needed to move the deal forward.
Now, it is up to Manchester City to approve the free transfer, as guaranteed by Mendes after discussions with City executives. This would allow Cancelo to make his way from Portugal to Barcelona, where he has been patiently waiting for updates, as he is not part of Pep Guardiola’s plans.
The delay in this process was due to Barcelona’s efforts to ensure they comply with financial fair play regulations. They needed to finalize the departures of players like Ansu Fati and Clement Lenglet, among others, or secure the necessary backing from the Barcelona board.
With the departures of the forward and the center-back on the horizon, Barcelona was finally able to submit their official proposal. Blaugrana fans will have to wait until midnight to see whether or not the player is going to wear the La Liga champions’ jersey in the coming season.
