Rabat – Participants in the 7th International Congress of Emergency Medicine held in Rabat urged the set up a unified national number for natural disasters to guarantee that patients are sent to the most appropriate facility in the best conditions.
The Moroccan Society of Emergency Medicine (SMMU) organized the academic conference on Saturday under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI.
The conference promoted direct contact with emergency services to hasten the response time of medical and rescue teams and activate a pre-hospital system.
SMMU President Ahmed Rhassane El Adib stated that individuals in emergency situations need to be aware of who to alert and how to administer first aid, adding that the general population has to know how to respond in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.
In a statement to Morocco’s News Agency (MAP), El Adib underlined the significance of ensuring a sufficient transfer of patients in accordance with safety procedures, in order to prevent escalating cases and resulting in secondary injuries.
Based on feedback from the Al Haouz earthquake and other accidents and attacks, the congress led to talks on acute care, particularly in circumstances of natural disasters.
The president stressed the significance of organization in this kind of situation, including how crisis cells are run, where field hospitals should be located, and patient triage, among other things.
He stated that the discussions centered on the issue of protocols for the care of traumatized patients, particularly pregnant women and children, with regard to massive transfusion protocols in cases of extreme trauma.
In addition to the issue of treating traumatized patients and reintegrating them into society with the least amount of harm, El Adib pointed out that there was also the issue of psychological support for victims.
El Adib, who is also a professor of anesthesiology and critical care, noted that, considering the significant athletic events that Morocco is preparing to host in the upcoming years, adequate emergency medicine is also expected to play a significant role as a core part of event hosting and organization.
