Rabat – Moroccan tennis player Aya El Aouni won the title of the W15 Heraklion tournament in Greece on Sunday, after winning the final over Spain’s Claudia Host Ferrer in two sets to one.

This victory marked El Aouni’s first professional title, following an impressive performance from the 18 year-old.

In the round of 16, she eliminated Brazilian Ana Candiotto two sets to nil. She also beat German Mara Guth two sets to one in the semi-finals to secure a spot in the title-deciding game.

The Moroccan tennis prodigy holds a total record of 18 wins and 8 losses, according to the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

El Aouni’s father was a tennis player himself, and she was surrounded by family members who had worked mostly in the tennis industry.

She advanced to become Africa’s top junior, as her love for the sport continued.

Tunisian tennis champion Ons Jabeur’s great accomplishments also played a great role in inspiring El Aouni to continue with the sport and to maintain her ambitions of sporting success.

“She did have a positive effect on us, that we can do it, it’s not too far,” El Anouni said in an interview with Olympics.com.

In 2018, she participated in her first major competition, and went on to win her first Junior Singles championship at an ITF competition in Algeria a year later.
