Rabat – Moroccan footballer Mohamed Chibi reacted on Thursday to his call-up to the national team for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), expressing delight at the chance to represent Morocco.
In an Instagram post, the right-back who plays for Egyptian team Pyramids FC expressed his delight at being called up by Walid Regragui to play in the AFCON, scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11.
“With great pride, I am delighted to be selected on the national team’s list of players for the CAN,” the player’s post read.
“I would like to thank the national coach and his staff for the trust they have placed in me. I hope to live up to expectations,” the 30 year-old added.
This will mark Chibi’s second appearance at the anticipated tournament. He played in the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon under the management of Vahid Halilhodzic.
Before Pyramids FC, Chibi played for Moroccan clubs Raja AC and AS FAR, as well as Egyptian club Zamalek SC. He has also had appearances with Morocco’s national team.
In preparation for the African tournament, the Moroccan team will start training sessions on January 2, before facing Gambia in a friendly match on January 7.
