Rabat – In a joint operation, the Casablanca prefectural judicial police and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) seized today over 6 tonnes of cannabis resin between the Moroccan cities of Casablanca and Bouznika.
According to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the operation was carried out early on Friday at the Casablanca and Bouznika motorway exits.
Investigators intercepted two vehicles carrying bundles of cannabis resin weighing over 6 tonnes. An investigation was then opened under the supervision of the competent office to scrutinize this attempted international drug trafficking operation.
In an effort to halt the increasing drug trafficking operations scattered across the Kingdom, the local police in different Moroccan cities such as Casablanca, Fez, Tangier, Tetouan, and Meknes have carried out a series of raids on drug trafficking, particularly the so-called “Lpoufa.”
Civil society actors have recently been active on social networks, warning of the proliferation of the drug, which is rampant among young people in Casablanca.
In response to these calls, the police force in the Wilaya of Casablanca has performed major operations to stem the flow of narcotics and psychotropic drugs in all their forms.
These drugs include cocaine, hashish, psychotropic tablets,as well as plastic bottles and cans of sodium bicarbonate, which are used to make “Lpoufa.”
These series of police operations led to the arrest of a number of individuals, some of whom are wanted on national arrest warrants.
