Rabat – Yassine Bounou is on the shortlist of goalkeepers vying for the Goalkeeper of the Year prize offered by the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards, which is to be held on January 19 in Dubai.
Other names in the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards shortlist are Belgian Thibaut Courtois who plays for Real Madrid, German Ter Stegen from Barcelona, Brazilian Ederson from Manchester City, Cameroonian Andre Onana from Manchester United, and French Mike Maignan from AC Milan.
The 32-year-old has won over fans around the world with his clutch saves and helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup for the first time in their history.
He also won UEFA Europa League with Sevilla earlier this year, his second Europa League title with the Andalusian club.
Since joining Al Hilal in August, Bounou has become an integral part of the Saudi squad, establishing himself as a key player in Jorge Jesus’s starting lineup.

In September 2022, Bounou became the first Moroccan-Arab player to win the Zamora Trophy for the 2021-2022 season, awarded annually to the best goalkeeper in La Liga.
Bounou remains one of the top players in his position after a fantastic year that saw him win the African goalkeeper of the year award and finish 13th in the Ballon d’Or.
Additionally, the Moroccan goalkeeper was named as Goalkeeper of the Year during the 2023 CAF Awards ceremony held on Monday in Marrakech.
