Rabat – Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), fertilizer giant OCP Group, and the Center of Competence in Climate Change of Morocco (4C Maroc) have signed a partnership agreement to combat the impacts of climate change.
The signing of the collaboration, which is set to extend over a period of three years, took place amid the ongoing COP28 conference in Dubai, according to a press release by 4C Maroc.
The partnership outlines various initiatives by 4C Morocco and UM6P, notably focusing on climate change education and the development of projects within the climate finance framework.
In addition, the partnership aims to support OCP Group’s greenhouse gas reduction policy and carbon neutrality goals. It also focuses on promoting and providing scientific and technical support for projects contributing to climate change adaptation.
Director of 4C Morocco Rajae Chafil applauded the OCP Group’s leadership in advocating for a low-carbon economy, describing the company as “one of the world’s most sustainable fertilizer producers.”
“This partnership exemplifies the effective services provided by the 4C Maroc Center for its members,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Chief Sustainability Officer at OCP Hanane Mourchid said that the phosphate giant has consistently supported 4C Maroc since its inception following COP22 in Marrakech.

“Eight years later, we are formalizing this agreement to promote further cooperation and skill development in the realm of climate change,” Mourchid said.
She added that the partnership will also leverage the scientific and technical expertise of UM6P, a leader in climate research and sustainable development. UM6P has been actively involved in pioneering projects aimed at understanding and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
The statement stressed that the partnership is aligned with OCP Group’s strategy for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and that it reflected the company’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
COP 28 is taking place in Dubai between November 30 and December 12. The primary aim of COP meetings is to assess progress in dealing with climate change and to negotiate and implement measures to address the global challenge.
The ongoing conference has brought together more than 160 leaders, policymakers, scientists, and activists from around the world to collaborate on finding effective solutions to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts.
These leaders will outline their countries’ plans to achieve sustainability and enhance emission reduction.
