Rabat – The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and Les Domaines Agricoles announced the creation of DAUMTECH, a joint venture for the development of advanced technological solutions and sustainable agricultural practices.
A press release from UM6P said today that the DAUMTECH initiative “marks the beginning of a new era in precision agriculture,” noting that this also reflects a major shift towards more resilient agricultural practices to face climate change challenges.
The ultimate goal of the project is also to promote the adoption of sustainable agriculture, combining economic efficiency and environmental preservation to establish Morocco as a regional hub in the precision agriculture sector.
The creation of the joint venture is in line with a four-year Research and Development partnership between UM6P and Les Domaines Agricoles.
The cooperation between the two parties seeks to ensure national food sovereignty through focusing on cereals and forage crops, and agricultural products intended for export, notably citrus fruits and berries.
“By combining the agronomic expertise of the Agricultural Domains with the advanced technology of UM6P, DAUMTECH aims to translate Moroccan agronomic expertise into cutting-edge digital solutions that are accessible to farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural ecosystem in Morocco and beyond,” UM6P highlighted in its statement.
The solutions include reasoned fertilization management, precision irrigation, prediction of agricultural yields, and “Carbon Farming.”
Quoted in the press release, DAUMTECH CEO Faissal Sehbaoui expressed satisfaction with the project, describing it as “ambitious.”
Sehbaoui emphasized that the project further boosts the “strategic collaboration” between UM69 and Les Domaines Agricoles.
“This unique collaboration will allow Moroccan agriculture to shine globally through AgriTech,” he added.
