Rabat – Goalkeeper of the Moroccan national football team Yassine Bounou spoke on Wednesday about the training conditions of the national team in the Ivorian city of San Pedro, as part of its preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), to be held on January 13.
Bounou said in a statement to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), that all the players feel highly responsible to live up to expectations of Moroccan fans in this continental event, noting that the preparations are taking place in a good atmosphere.
“We feel great responsibility to live up to the expectations of Moroccan supporters,” Bounou stated, stressing that “every moment I spend with the national team alongside the rest of the players is advantageous.”
For his part, Moroccan forward Abde Ezzalzouli spoke about the preparations, saying the team is “trying to adapt to the weather and the pitch. The atmosphere within the group is wonderful, and we are working hard to prepare for the first match.”
“We ask our fans to support us and stand by us. We will do everything we can, and with their support, we will definitely be stronger,” Ezzalzouli emphasized.
In a final test ahead of the upcoming tournament, the Atlas Lions will play Sierra Leone in a friendly match today at the Auguste Denise stadium in Cote d’Ivoire.
The prestigious African football festival will kick off next Saturday when host nation Cote d’Ivoire face Guinea-Bissau after the opening ceremony.
Moroccan fans will have to wait until January 17 to see how their team performs, when Morocco play its first group stage match against Tanzania at 6:00 p.m. Moroccan Time.
