Rabat – Two key players of the Moroccan national football team, Achraf Hakimi and Yassine Bounou, have expressed their optimism and confidence to honor Moroccan football at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), to be held from January 13 to February 11 in Cote d’Ivoire.

Hakimi and Bounou, who just joined Morocco’s training sessions on January 4, expressed their team’s determination to do its utmost to delight Moroccan people at the African showpiece.

“I am very happy to join my teammates and continue working with the group. I want to thank all the fans who support me all the time, even in difficult times,” Hakimi declared during the training session.

“I’m going to give my all for the national team and I hope we’ll achieve some great things,” added the freshly crowned Champions Trophy winner with PSG.

Likewise, Bounou believes the Atlas Lions have a fresh challenge ahead of them and will stop at nothing to satisfy their supporters.

For his part, Al Hilal’s goalkeeper Bounou stated that “preparations are going well alongside the rest of the players … This is a new challenge. We will keep the usual mindset to deliver a satisfying performance in the first match.”

“I would like to thank all Moroccan fans who always support the team, and we hope they will be present in order to achieve great results altogether,” he went on to say.

The first training camp for the AFCON began on January 2, which coincided with some players’ commitments with their teams.

Hakimi, for instance, joined the team two days later, in order to take part in the Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) match against Toulouse FC on January 3, as part of the French Super Cup final.

The Atlas Lions’ new adventure will kick off on January 17, when they will play against their Tanzanian counterparts.
