Rabat – The kick-off of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will see the hosts Côte d’Ivoire lock horns with Guinea-Bissau in the opening match on January 13.
The Alassane Ouattara stadium will host the opening game in the Ivorian capital, Abidjan, kicking off att 9:00 p.m. Moroccan Time.
Fans will be able to watch the game on Sky Sports in the UK or via the Sky Go app for subscribers.
Hosting the tournament for the first time since 1984, Côte d’Ivoire will exert every effort to win its third title after the first in 1992 and the second in 2015.
Opta Analyst, the sports prediction platform, named Côte d’Ivoire as the second most likely team to clinch the title with 12.1% after the defending champions Senegal.
“Ivory Coast are assigned a 12.1% chance of becoming the first home victors since Egypt in 2006,” the platform predicted on Tuesday.
Placed in Group A alongside Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, and Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire will compete in their second group stage match against Nigeria on January 18 and Equatorial Guinea on January 22.
Guinea-Bissau, however, has never won the African title. Their previous best performances were limited to the group stage in their four appearances in the AFCON history.
