Rabat – Figeac Aero, a European subcontractor specializing in manufacturing aeronautic equipment, unveiled its latest production facility in Casablanca, Morocco.

The state-of-the-art facility stretches over 4,000 square meters under a substantial investment of MAD 140 million ($14 million), according to converging media reports.

The facility will be dedicated to the production of a crucial component for the LEAP-1A engine nacelle, a key feature of modern aircraft like the Airbus A320neo.

The plant is part of a partnership between Figeac Aero’s French and Moroccan teams, alongside Safran Nacelles, another aerospace manufacturer.

The inauguration ceremony, which was held on Friday, was attended by a number of high-profile figures including the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour.

In a statement, the company said that the partnership aims to capitalize on the growing demand for high-value-added aerospace components, particularly in the expanding market for eco-friendly aircraft technology.

Commenting on the news, Mezzour emphasized the strategic importance of the project, aligning with Morocco’s aim to propel the nation into a new era of aerospace prominence.

He stressed the significance of this initiative in fostering economic growth and strengthening international partnerships.

For his part, Jean-Claude Maillard, CEO of Figeac Aero, expressed gratitude for the collective effort that made the project possible, emphasizing the resilience of the aerospace supply chain amid challenging circumstances.

“The pandemic has put a strain on the supply chain, highlighting the crucial importance of financial support from banks for the development of the aerospace value chain,” he said, adding that as a strategic sector, aerospace relies on the support of the banking sector to ensure the success of future projects.

Meanwhile, Said Benhajjou, President of the Moroccan Aerospace and Space Industries Group (GIMAS), lauded the rapid execution of the project as a testament to Morocco’s growing prominence in the global aerospace arena.

“This project marks a new era for the aerospace industry in Morocco, as it allows the production of even more sensitive and complex parts, which are essential to support one of the key elements of an aircraft, which is the engine,” Benhajjou added.
