Rabat – Morocco’s national team coach Walid Regragui has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance during their friendly match against Angola on Friday evening.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Regragui emphasized the importance of the win in raising morale among the players and fans alike.
The win against Angola marks the first for Morocco since their sub-optimal performance in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they left the tournament in the Round of 16 after a shock 2-0 loss to South Africa.
“This victory will give us more confidence, and we are required to improve certain aspects,” he said.
Reflecting on the team’s performance during the game, Regragui said that the team played the first half well and “controlled the game.”
However, the coach conceded that the players could have made better use of the multiple windows of opportunities they had during the game. “We had many opportunities but we didn’t capitalize on them as we should have.”
Despite some technical errors in the second half, the Moroccan team continued to dominate. “In the second half, we continued to dominate despite some technical errors,” Regragui explained.
The coach stressed the need for the team to develop its offensive strategies for future games. “We need better offensive efficiency in the upcoming matches,” he added.
The focus now shifts to the World Cup qualifiers. “We are preparing for the World Cup qualifiers, working on cohesion, and focusing on a number of points in the friendlies against Angola and Mauritania,” Regragui said.
The Moroccan team is set to face Mauritania in another friendly match next Tuesday in Agadir.
