Rabat – Hussein Ammouta, Moroccan head coach of the Jordanian national football team, and his players and staff were awarded the Silver Jubilee Medal by King Abdullah II in Amman on Monday.
The award ceremony took place today in the presence of Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.
The award is in recognition of the Jordanian team’s outstanding performance at the Asian Cup, where they finished second.
During the meeting, King Abdullah II wished the Jordanian team “luck in qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
“His Majesty affirmed his continued support for the national team, expressing best wishes to them in the match against Pakistan on Tuesday,” the Jordanian news agency Petra reported.
Jordan defeated several regional heavyweights during the tournament, including a shock and commanding 2-0 win against South Korea in the semifinal.
However, Ammota’s team had to settle for second place after losing 3-1 to Qatar in the final.
The 54-year-old manager was appointed as a coach of the Jordanian squad in June 2023, with the assignment of helping the Middle Eastern nation qualify for the Asian Cup in Qatar.
Throughout the tournament, Ammota showed unwavering belief in his players, fostering a formidable team spirit and mental resilience against higher-ranked, favorites teams.
