The Atlas Lions and defending champions scored a 8-3 win against Ghana on Saturday evening as part of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage.

The game took place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The top two finalists in this AFCON and the team finishing third in this tournament will be representing Africa at the 2024 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan from September 14 to October 6.

Morocco emerged victorious in the previous two editions of the AFCON Futsal, winning the continental tournament in 2016 and 2020. Egypt claimed victory in the inaugural three editions held in 1996, 2000, and 2004, while Libya clinched the title in 2008.

In the opening match of this 7th edition of the continental championship, Zambia secured a notable 5-2 win against Ghana at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

This year’s tournament features eight teams divided into two groups of four: Morocco, Angola, Ghana, and Zambia are in Group A, while Egypt, Libya, Namibia, and Mauritania were drawn in Group B.

Morocco defeated Angola during the first group-stage game on Thursday.

Following the win, head coach Hicham Dguig praised his team for their resilience and spectacular performances stressing that his squad will prepare for another win in the next games.
