Marrakech – On Wednesday, Facebook unveiled its latest innovation; a revamped full-screen video player set to transform user experiences across all video formats.

This upgrade promises a cohesive design and seamless interaction for viewers engaging with short-form Reels, extensive long-form videos, and live content, TechCrunch reported.

Initially rolling out in the United States and Canada, the enhanced player aims to simplify the process of consuming and distributing video content.

The spotlight feature of this upgrade is its default vertical mode for video playback, aligning with contemporary viewing preferences and optimizing screen real estate.

Moreover, Facebook’s algorithmic prowess comes into play as it introduces personalized recommendations for subsequent viewing, irrespective of video length or format.

This strategic move not only enhances user engagement but also reinforces Facebook’s commitment to staying ahead in the competitive social media landscape.

According to TechCrunch, the latter change could potentially affect key factors that creators and advertisers care about, like watch time, number of views, reach and more.

For Facebook, meanwhile, more people watching videos on the platform could allow it to increase time onsite, plus advertising views and clicks, among other things.

It also gives Facebook a way to better compete against other popular video platforms that rely on algorithmic recommendations, like YouTube and TikTok, as it broadens the pool of possible recommendations to include more video formats, the website highlighted.

The enhanced recommendations generated by the upgraded video player won’t be confined solely within the player itself; they’ll extend their reach beyond, infiltrating users’ Facebook feeds  and video tabs.

Responding to the increasing popularity of short-form video content, Facebook says it  pledges to boost the visibility of Reels in its feeds, aligning with evolving viewing preferences.

Furthermore, Facebook’s upgraded player introduces a suite of new controls to enrich the viewing experience.

Users can now enjoy full-screen mode for horizontal videos and utilize a convenient slider to navigate through longer video content seamlessly.

Adding to the user-friendly interface, tapping on the video will unveil a range of additional options, allowing users to pause playback or skip ahead or backward by 10 seconds, enhancing control and interactivity during video consumption.
