Rabat – According to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), Morocco’s police arrested a 63-year-old Dutch national of Egyptian descent on Monday in the Oriental town of Guercif after verifying his identification with Interpol databases.
The operation, according to DGSN, was carried out in response to an international arrest order that the Austrian judicial authorities issued for the man’s involvement in cases related to financial crime and property damage.
The Germany-based National Central Bureau (BKA) was also pursuing the suspect in connection with a heroin trafficking case.
The suspect was taken into custody before being turned over to the competent public prosecutor’s office, while the National Central Bureau in Rabat was tasked with informing its German counterpart of his arrest, pending extradition procedures.
According to the DGSN, this operation is part of the ongoing efforts made by Moroccan security services to strengthen their cooperation with international partners in various security fields.
In an effort to track down foreign individuals wanted internationally in cases linked to transnational crime, Director General of the DGSN-DGST unit Abdellatif Hammouchi received President of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) Holger Munch on February 27 in Rabat.
The aim of the visit was to develop security cooperation mechanisms between the two countries. Discussions between the two leaders focused on assessing the security partnership between the two countries.
Both sides had the chance to emphasize at the meeting how important it is to increase this collaboration, particularly through training programs and the sharing of information, expertise, and best practices.
