Rabat – Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces’ (FAR) supply units continue to provide meals to people affected by the Al Haouz earthquake in the Amizmiz, Asni, and Ouirgane communes during the holy month of Ramadan.
The FAR’s military supply units are still mobilized almost six months after the earthquake struck the Al Haouz region, prepped and ready to provide aid to the earthquake victims.
At the level of the Amizmiz, Asni, and Ouirgane communes, specialized units affiliated with the FAR’s Military Funding Services prepare Ramadan meals for around 1,800 people affected by the Al Haouz earthquake.
These units offer iftar, dinner and the pre-dawn meal (sahoor), prepared by bakeries and mobile military kitchens. Meals are also provided during the day for children and people unable to fast.
“We are located at the Royal Armed Forces’ camp during Ramadan. Despite the disaster that we experienced, we feel like a family thanks to the efforts made by FAR,” said one of the Amizmiz residents, Samira El Baraka.
In addition, post-earthquake reconstruction efforts are still underway in the several regions impacted by the September 8 earthquake.
One of the areas most severely damaged by the September 8 earthquake is the Talat N’Yaaqoub commune in the province of Al Haouz, where the rehabilitation of houses that partially or fully collapsed after the earthquake is progressing under “excellent” conditions, according to a report released on March 20 by state news agency MAP.
The report stated that under the supervision of local authorities and other relevant parties, work is being done in this rural community to clear rubble and debris, prepare building sites, lay foundations, rebuild houses, and restore partially damaged buildings.
The September 8 earthquake, which hit at a 6.8 magnitude on the Richter Scale, left almost 3,000 people dead, including women and children.
