Rabat – Deloitte Morocco Cyber Center (MCC), a subsidiary of the multinational professional services network Deloitte, and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) announced on Friday a partnership aimed at bolstering industrial cybersecurity in Morocco and Africa.
The collaboration, signed in Marrakech on the sidelines of the ongoing 2024 Gitex Africa, will focus on creating, designing, and implementing a specialized laboratory dedicated to securing operational technologies (OT) and industrial control systems (ICS).
The initiative is set to enhance the cybersecurity capabilities of the local and African manufacturing industries, UM6P said in a press release, as quoted by news agency MAP.
The new lab will address emerging cyber threats by focusing on the protection of technical operations and industrial control systems. The statement added that the partnership is a significant step in fortifying the resilience of these industries against cyberattacks.
Imade Elbaraka, President of Deloitte Morocco Cyber Center, emphasized the importance of the partnership, saying that “the laboratory represents a major advancement in our shared commitment to security and technological innovation.”
He noted that the collaboration leverages Deloitte’s expertise and UM6P’s cutting-edge research to deliver sovereign cybersecurity solutions tailored to the specific needs of local and African industries.
UM6P President Hicham El Habti expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that UM6P’s dedication to technological development and research support “sees this collaboration with Deloitte Morocco Cyber Center as an opportunity to strengthen Moroccan and African industries’ cybersecurity efforts.”
He added that combining their resources and expertise aims to foster an innovative environment for securing industrial technologies.
GITEX Africa 2024, taking place from May 29-31, is one of the largest tech and startup shows in Africa. This event aims to accelerate partnerships and drive the continent’s entrepreneurial and innovation economy.
The event featured hundreds of international exhibitors and startups from all over the world.
This year’s edition spotlighted the transformative potential of AI across various sectors, including cybersecurity, finance, telecoms, agriculture, and education.
It also marked the launch of World Future Health Africa, which focuses on digital health innovation.
