Rabat – Morocco is this year’s guest country at the 21st edition of the International Food Show (SIAL) Canada, scheduled to run from May 15 to 17 at the Palais des Congres in Montreal.
In a statement, El Mehdi El Alami, Director of Promotion and Development at Morocco Foodex, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity.
“Morocco is back at SIAL Canada to showcase the quality, sustainability, and diversity of Moroccan agri-food and fishery products,” he said. “This participation as the guest country represents a major opportunity to promote the Moroccan Origin and strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a producer and exporter of agri-food products.”
The event, which serves as a platform for industry players to explore the latest market trends, boost exports, and forge partnerships, is welcoming “18 national exhibitors” including Morocco’s representative.
According to the statement, Morocco’s participation comes at a time of booming trade relations between the North African country and Canada.

The latest figures reveal a significant uptick in bilateral trade, with Moroccan agri-food exports to Canada reaching MAD 1.5 billion in 2022 ($149 million), up 47% compared to 2019 and 26% compared to 2021.
Meanwhile, the agri-food sector accounted for 63% of the total value of Morocco’s exports to the Canadian market in 2022.
Highlighting the importance of the event, Morocco Foodex will host a series of culinary demonstrations and facilitate business-to-business meetings between Moroccan exhibitors and Canadian buyers. The initiatives aim to foster deeper commercial ties and explore new avenues for collaboration.
“We are excited to bring a taste of Morocco to SIAL Canada and showcase our nation’s culinary expertise,” remarked El Alami. “This event provides an exceptional opportunity to highlight our national know-how and unveil new partnership and cooperation opportunities.”
