Rabat – Dignitaries from around the world have expressed their condolences following the passing of Princess Lalla Latifa on Saturday. The news, announced by Moroccan authorities on June 29, has elicited an outpouring of sympathy and support from global leaders.

Martin Simon, the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Morocco, conveyed his deepest sympathies in a solemn message posted on X on Saturday. 

“My deepest condolences to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Royal Family, and the people of Morocco on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Latifa,” Simon wrote. “My thoughts are with all Moroccans during this time of grief. May her memory be a blessing.”

The official page of the UK Embassy in Morocco further honored Princess Lalla Latifa by announcing that the Union Jack would fly at half-mast across all their diplomatic missions in Morocco. 

“In honour of Her Late Royal Highness Princess Lalla Latifa, the UK flag will fly at half-mast at our Embassy and Consulates across Morocco,” the statement read. “We join the nation in mourning and extend our deepest condolences to the Royal Family.”

Closer to home, the Chief Minister of Gibraltar, the Hon Fabian Picardo KC MP, expressed his sorrow on behalf of the Government of Gibraltar. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Princess Lalla Latifa,” the post read. 

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the Royal Family and the people of Morocco during this time of mourning. May she rest in peace.”

Internationally, leaders also shared their condolences. The president of Pakistan conveyed his sympathies on X. 

“Deeply saddened over the passing of HRH Princess Lalla Latifa, mother of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco,” the post read. “I extend my sincere condolences to King Mohammed VI on behalf of the entire Pakistani nation on the sad demise of his mother.”
