Rabat – Morocco’s General Delegation for Penitentiary Administration and Rehabilitation (DGAPR) announced today that inmates will be allowed to receive food baskets from the second day of Eid Al Adha, continuing for one week as per the schedule outlined by correctional facilities.
This measure comes as part of an initiative to exempt religious festivities from the prohibition on food baskets, enabling inmates to partake in the joy of celebrating this occasion alongside their loved ones, in line with Moroccan customs.
In its statement announcing the measure, the DGAPR detailed that detainees would be eligible to receive these food baskets from their relatives, as well as from agents of diplomatic and consular missions for foreign prisoners during visits to penitentiary facilities.
Both the visits and the delivery of food baskets will have to follow a predetermined schedule set by the prison administration, the statement noted.
Correctional facilities are mandated to facilitate communication between inmates and their families, ensuring they are informed about the conditions and scheduled date for the delivery of food baskets, as reiterated in the statement.

The DGAPR urged inmates’ families to show responsibility throughout this operation of solidarity. They also highlighted the humanitarian nature, religious significance, and social dimensions of the operation.
Meanwhile, the statement also cautioned against exploiting the situation for any activities that could compromise the security of correctional facilities.
This gesture underscores the commitment of the DGAPR to promote humane treatment within prisons, fostering a sense of connection and inclusion for inmates during significant religious occasions.
The aim is to reinforce reform, rehabilitation, and integration objectives over punitive dimensions within Morocco’s judicial system.
In alignment with human rights principles, DGAPR’s decision to allow inmates to receive food baskets during Eid Al Adha represents a crucial step towards upholding the dignity and well-being of detainees in Morocco.
Morocco’s Minister of Islamic Affairs annouced today that Monday, June 17 will mark the first day of Eid Al Adha in the country.
