Twenty-five Muslims secured seats in Britain’s parliamentary elections, marking a record compared to previous years.

In a report today, Anadolu Agency noted that this number is record-breaking compared to 2019, when Muslim MPs won only 19 seats.

Citing data from the Muslim Network, the Turkish news agency said that the number includes 18 members from the Labour Party, four independents, and two who are affiliated with the Conservative Party.

One is from the Liberal Democrats, the news outlet noted, adding that the devastating war on civilians in Gaza influenced the election.

Estimating the number of Muslims living in the country at 3.4 million, the network celebrated the news as a “significant milestone” in the UK’s political landscape.

The Labour Party officially won the British elections last week. Keir Starmer became the country’s new prime minister following the party’s victory.

Like many countries across the world, the UK is also experiencing an alarming increase in Islamophobia which has become a significant concern for many within the Muslim community.

Recent data from the anti-hate crime monitoring group Tell Mama said in February that anti-Muslim hate crimes surged over 300% in the UK in the four months in the four months amid the ongoing Israeli devastating war on Gaza.

The monitoring group recorded 2,010 anti–Muslim hate incidents between October 7, 2023, and February 7, 2024.

The number represents the highest number of anti-Muslim hate incidents recorded in four months since the organization began tracking in 2011.
