Marrakech – The Moroccan National Olympic Committee has officially announced a list of the 60 athletes who will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics, as reported by Anadolu Agency.

These athletes will defend the national colors, representing Morocco in 19 different sports.

Some of the key sports Morocco will compete in include athletics, football, and boxing.

The country is counting on its Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali, who won gold in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the previous Olympics, as well as Fatima Zahra Gardadi, the first Moroccan and Arab woman to win a bronze medal in the marathon at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Morocco is also relying on its football team, which includes prominent professional players such as Achraf Hakimi who plays for Paris Saint-Germain.

The Paris Olympics will commence on July 26 and continue until August 11.

Per Moroccan channel 2M, the list of sports Morocco will participate in at the Paris Olympics, along with the breakdown of male and female athletes, is as follows:

Morocco hopes to overcome the recent stumble at the Tokyo Olympics and aims to return this year with more than one medal.

Athletics, as well as boxing, are the two sports expected to yield Olympic medals for Morocco, given the country’s history of winning 23 medals at the Olympic Games, with 19 in athletics and field and 4 in boxing.

The Moroccan Olympic national football team is also looking to win a medal in its eighth participation, after seven unsuccessful attempts.

Their most notable performance was at the 1972 Munich Olympics, where they qualified for the second round. In the remaining six participations, the Atlas Lions exited the competition in the group stage.
