Rabat –  In a commanding performance, Raja Club Athletic secured a 5-0 victory over the Association Sportive de la Garde Nationale du Niger (ASGNN) yesterday during the return leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Having won the first leg 2-1, Raja’s players easily triumphed in the second leg at Casablanca’s  Larbi Zaouli Stadium.

The scoring opened in the 28th minute with Mohamed Zrida, followed by Naoufal Zerhouni who added a second goal in the 34th minute. Mohamed Boulacsout scored the third just before halftime.

Adam Ennafati made it 4-0 in the 54th minute, and Sabir Bougrine completed the rout with a fifth goal in the 67th minute.

The next round of preliminary matches will take place from September 13-15 for the first leg and September 20-22 for the return leg.

In other good news for Morocco, AS FAR’s women’s team also enjoyed a decisive 4-0 victory over Algeria’s FC Akbou in the North African qualifiers for the 4th edition of the Women’s Champions League.

The tournament is being held in Algiers from August 24 to 30.

The team will next face the Association Sportive Feminine de Sousse from Tunisia and Toutankhamon FC from Egypt on August 27 and 30, respectively.

The top team from the group will advance to the final stage of the Champions League.

Promoted to the Moroccan top flight in 2009, the team clinched its first Moroccan championship in the 2012-2013 season by defeating Wydad Athletic Club 2-0 in the final.

Since then, they have been crowned champions multiple times, though they finished second behind Laayoune in the 2014-2015 season.

Despite disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic in the 2019-2020 season, the club remained undefeated and secured its seventh title.

AS FAR also made a mark in the CAF Women’s Champions League, winning the bronze medal in its inaugural year in 2021.

The following year, they hosted the competition and triumphed 4-0 in the final against Mamelodi Sundowns. In 2023, they finished third after a 2-0 victory over Ampem Darkoa.
