Rabat — Sunday will mark a highly anticipated match between Morocco and Portugal as part of the ongoing Futsal World Cup competition in Uzbekistan.
Despite both teams having already secured their spots to the Round of 16, the game is set to be thrilling as the two squads are committed to proving their skills on the futsal pitch.
Morocco qualified for the Round of 16 after its spectacular victory over Pamana 6-3 on Thursday.
The win garnered attention across international headlines, with many expecting the Atlas Lions to continue their momentum throughout the competition.
Portugal will be a challenging opponent. Both teams have history in this competition, as the two drew 3-3 in the 2021 Futsal World Cup.
“I have great admiration for the Moroccan team. Their character, motivation, the risks they take during matches, and their style of play. I really like this team for the great work done, especially during the last Africa Cup, which was won by the Moroccan team,” Portuguese futsal coach Jorge Braz told the press earlier this week.
The coach also sees Morocco as one of the contenders to win the ongoing World Cup under the impressive leadership of Hicham Dguig.
However, Braz is determined that his team can challenge Morocco’s risk during today’s match despite the two teams’ qualifications for the next stage.
The Atlas Lions will play against Portugal at 1:30 p.m. Moroccan time. Morocco’s Arriyadia television channel will broadcast the game.
Morocco’s Soufiane Borite told FIFA ahead of this match that he is aware Portugal is “always one of the favorites to win the World Cup.”
“I think all over their squad they have some of the best players in the world,” he added.
The Atlas Lion emphasized that his team is ready to give everything to win, stressing confidence with Coach Dguig.
