Rabat – Sabah Aib, the newly crowned Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais and contender for Miss France 2025, has found herself at the center of a wave of online racist abuse, with attacks targeted towards her Maghreb origins.
Since her win last Saturday, the 18-year-old law student has been subjected to a surge of hateful attacks. Initially, her victory was met with praise, with Anne-Sophie Sevrette, the regional delegate for the Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais committee, calling Aib a promising contender for the national Miss France competition.
In a post shared on Instagram Tuesday, Aib, whose father is Algerian and mother is Moroccan, wrote about the racial abuse she has been subjected to since her win.
“Since my election, I’ve faced a wave of hate because of my origins,” she wrote, pointing out that “France is a multicultural country, and having a foreign name doesn’t change the fact that I am French.”
Aib sees herself as a symbol of an inclusive and diverse France. Holding the Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais title, she champions the region’s cultural richness. Yet, her win has brought to light the disturbing persistence of racism and xenophobia on social media.
Despite the hateful attacks, Aib remains resolute in her journey toward the Miss France 2025 competition, determined to rise above the prejudice aimed at her.
“I will continue to wear this title with pride, determination, and respect for everyone,” she stated, standing firm against the attacks.
