Rabat — Thousands of people gathered in Rabat today, marching in solidarity with Palestine and Lebanon against the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) relentless campaign and genocide targeting civilians.
The massive march comes as the year mark approaches since IOF launched its genocide against Gaza on October 7, 2023.
Since the launch of the genocide, the IOF killed over 41,825 Palestinians and left an additional 96,910 injured.
Despite the globally condemned mass murder and genocide, occupation forces continue to claim that this campaign is targeting the country’s “enemies,” referencing Hamas and various resistance movements.
During today’s march, Rabat protesters and demonstrators who joined the massive gathering lifted several banners, calling on the Moroccan government to end its ties with Israel.
In addition to the genocide in Gaza, protestors also denounced the IOF’s relentless campaign in Lebanon, with banners reading: “Resistance is the deepest form of love,” “End normalization,” “End academic normalization in Morocco,” “No genocide,” and many more slogans.
Protesters also waved Palestinian and Lebanese flags, with MPs and senior officials of political parties in attendance.
Mohammed Nabil Benabdellah, leader of the Party of Progress and Socialism told Morocco World News (MWN) that his party’s participation in the march today reflects its “rejection of the heinous Zionist aggression against Gaza.”
“Today, we in the Party of Progress and Socialism stand alongside the rest of the Moroccan people to say with a loud voice, ‘no.’ No to this heinous Zionist aggression, the aggression on Gaza, the aggression on the rest of Palestinian cities, the aggression on the Palestinian people, the heinous Zionist aggression that seeks to eliminate the Palestinian cause,” he said.
Benabdellah also denounced the aggressions targeting Lebanon, stressing that the Israeli campaign continues with the complicity of the international community, fully supported by the US.
Aziz Hanaoui, a member of the National Action Group for Palestine, who helped organize the march, expressed the same sentiment, noting that today’s protests exemplify Morocco’s support for the Palestinian cause and mirrors many other protests which have taken place across the country from October 7 last year to October 6, today.
“We stand in support of the martyrs and the resistance, condemning the genocidal war being waged by the Zionist enemy against the Palestinian and Lebanese people,” he told MWN.
The activist also called for the “fall of normalization and expulsion of the liaison office that insults Moroccans.”
Morocco has hosted many similar protests across the country since the start of the genocide on October 7 of last year.
The Moroccan government has frequently responded to criticism and calls for the end of bilateral ties with Israel, reaffirming its steadfast position in support of Palestine’s independence.
It has also frequently called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire to the devastating war on civilians in Gaza, denouncing Israeli massacres.
Morocco also deployed several shipments of humanitarian aid amid the Israeli genocide, with Palestinian officials welcoming the country’s solidarity position and efforts.
