Rabat – Morocco and Qatar are seeking strengthened military cooperation, a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) said today.
In Rabat, Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, received General Hamad Bin Ali Al Attiyah, advisor to the Emir of Qatar for Defense Affairs.
The meeting came under Supreme Commander of the FAR, King Mohammed VI’s instructions, and the Qatari ambassador to Rabat was in attendance, along with members of the Qatari delegation.
The FAR statement said the delegations demonstrated the “fraternal and friendly relations between the Royal Armed Forces and their Qatari counterparts, characterized by mutual trust, respect, and a shared commitment to further strengthening these ties in the future.”
The discussion also focused on further stretching Moroccan-Qatari military cooperation.
Morocco and Qatar share good diplomatic ties, extending cooperation at all levels, including within the security realm.
These strong bilateral relations between the two countries are reflected through various ways. Both countries reiterate support for each other’s territorial integrity, and Morocco contributed to the success of the World Cup 2022 through sharing its expertise with the Gulf country.
In October of 2022, beIN Sports reported that Morocco and Qatar released a joint statement promising to increase security cooperation and exchange information ahead of the global tournament.
Qatar also supported Morocco’s bid to co-host the 2030 World Cup along with Spain and Portugal.
This recent visit in Rabat concerning the FAR is just one of many, as officials from both countries regularly exchange visits to discuss bilateral cooperation.
Earlier this month, King Mohammed VI and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamm bin Hamad Al Thani, held a phone call on bilateral relations to boost cooperation between the two countries.
Ties between the two countries also experienced significant development since Morocco was named Qatar’s Years of Culture partner, an initiative that included over 80 events across both countries throughout the year.
