Doha – The Grand Mufti of Al-Quds and Palestine, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, commended Morocco’s ongoing support for the Palestinian people during a meeting Sunday in Ramallah with Morocco’s Ambassador to Palestine, Abderrahim Meziane.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hussein, who serves as the imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, talked about Morocco’s efforts under the leadership of King Mohammed VI in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The Grand Mufti expressed particular appreciation for the strong bonds between the Palestinian and Moroccan peoples, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.
The religious leader detailed the challenging circumstances facing Palestinians, particularly in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and its holy sites, including violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque. He called on the international community to take action to end the ongoing conflict devastatingly affecting Palestinians.
Ambassador Meziane affirmed that Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, who also serves as president of the Al-Quds Committee, “will spare no effort in supporting the Palestinian people,” recognizing the country’s continuous efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery to both Gaza and Al-Quds populations.
Earlier this year, King Mohammed VI ordered the deployment of humanitarian aid for Gaza as they face genocide, which benefited 2,000 families in the besieged enclave. This initiative marked Morocco as the first country to deliver humanitarian aid by land in favor of the beneficiary populations, followed by further similar operations.
The ambassador commended the ongoing work of Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency in supporting Al-Quds residents and preserving the city’s historical and cultural character. The agency’s activities span various sectors including health, education, social projects, and youth and children’s initiatives.
Meziane expressed interest in expanding bilateral cooperation between Dar Al-Iftaa and other Palestinian religious institutions alongside their Moroccan counterparts, aiming to strengthen relations between the two nations while serving Al-Aqsa Mosque and preserving Al-Quds’ religious sites.
This recognition follows similar recent appreciation from Palestinian officials. At the MEDays forum in Tangier late last month, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki recognized Morocco’s steadfast support, describing it as “a source of strength and pride for the Palestinians.”
The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, initiated by the late King Hassan II and officially launched in 1998, has been instrumental in Morocco’s support for Palestine.
The agency has invested $57 million in various social, cultural, educational, health, and housing projects benefiting Jerusalem residents. Morocco continues to be the agency’s primary funder, contributing approximately 87% of its budget.
The agency operates under the Al-Quds Committee, established in 1975, focusing on preserving Jerusalem’s Muslim holy sites, particularly Al-Aqsa Mosque, while protecting the city’s cultural, religious, and urban heritage.
Its work extends beyond Jerusalem to other Palestinian cities, including supporting educational institutions in Gaza, which is more vital than ever now as the region faces genocide at the hands of Israel.
