Rabat – Barid Al-Maghrib (Poste Maroc) is enhancing its sustainability efforts by launching a fleet of electric motorbikes for deliveries, a move that supports its broader strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and modernize Morocco’s postal services.
Barid Al-Maghrib has announced the deployment of 190 electric motorbikes across seven major cities, including Laayoune, Agadir, Marrakech, Fez, Casablanca, Tangier, and Rabat.
By the end of 2024, the company plans to add 250 more motorbikes, aiming for a total of over 650 by 2025.
These motorbikes, with a range of 80 to 100 kilometers per charge, are specifically designed to meet the demands of daily mail and parcel deliveries.
The shift to electric-powered vehicles is a major step in reducing the environmental impact of last-mile deliveries in Morocco.
This initiative is part of the post office’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, following the addition of 225 electric vehicles to its fleet in 2022.
The introduction of electric motorbikes further strengthens the company’s role as a leader in promoting eco-friendly logistics solutions.
With its innovative approach, Barid Al-Maghrirb is making a significant contribution to the development of green delivery services and supporting Morocco’s broader environmental objectives.
The central post office joins other Moroccan public institutions in committing to more green practices within the last couple of years.
At COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) Morocco’s central bank, presented on its efforts to address climate risks and promote green finance during a side event at the Moroccan Pavilion.
Najwa Mouhaouri, head of BAM’s Green Finance Unit, discussed the bank’s comprehensive strategy for advancing green finance. This includes raising awareness within the financial sector, hosting workshops on risk management, and fostering dialogue among stakeholders.
BAM is also exploring partnerships to analyze trends, challenges, and opportunities in Morocco’s green banking market.
As part of its regulatory initiatives, BAM has issued a directive urging other Moroccan banks to integrate environmental considerations into their strategies. This includes guidelines on governance, risk management, training, and transparent reporting, aimed at mitigating the financial vulnerabilities linked to climate change.
