Libya’s House of Representatives and High Council of State have expressed their gratitude to Morocco for its “tireless efforts”to end the crisis and restore security and stability in Libya.

The joint statement came following a meeting convening the two factions in Bouznika as part of the ongoing consultations facilitated by Morocco.

“We reiterate our heartfelt thanks and immense gratitude to the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco, to the King, the government and the people for the hospitality, warm welcome and the great support that the Kingdom has continuously provided to the Libyan people for several years to end the crisis,” the joint statement said.

The meeting on the Atlantic coast of Morocco brought together 120 participants as part of the Libyan intra-dialogue to give new momentum to the political process seeking to achieve presidential parliamentary elections.

Morocco has hosted a series of dialogue and roundtable talks in Skhirat and Bouznika. The Skhirat dialogue meetings concluded in the Skhirat Agreement which resulted in the formation of the Presidential Council and the establishment of mechanisms to unify the state’s institutions.

In the final communique today, the House of Representatives and the High Council of State agreed to continue their joint meetings to promote national reconciliation, the peaceful resolution of the Libyan crisis, and the unification of institutions.

Emphasis was placed on the necessity of contributing contacts between factions in support of a national consultation that would lead to a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

The two institutions agree on the imperative of prioritizing competence and merit to ensure full respect for the principles of transparency and accountability.

The two institutions also agreed that the solution for Libya depends on free and transparent elections based on the 6+6 laws adopted by the official institutions endorsed by UN Security Council resolutions.

On Wednesday, Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita reiterated the country’s firm commitment on resolving the Libyan crisis, reaffirming support for the inter-Libyan dialogue.

He also emphasized Morocco’s principled opposition to any foreign intervention in the Libyan conflict, stressing the need for all regional actors and global powers to respect the decisions of the Libyan people.

“We stress that Morocco believes Libyan dialogues can only succeed in the absence of foreign interventions,” Bourta said, expressing the country’s sincere desire to contribute to advancing the Libyan file towards a sustainable settlement that preserves Libya’s unity and sovereignty.
