Rabat– Abdellatif Hammouchi, the Director General of National Security, has suspended a police officer suspected of harassing a woman on the Aïn Diab corniche in Casablanca. The suspension, announced on Wednesday, comes as the officer faces an ongoing judicial investigation into the allegations.
The officer, serving in Casablanca’s public security brigade, was temporarily suspended due to suspicions of his involvement in a criminal case currently under judicial review.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) stated that the suspension is a disciplinary measure aimed at preserving the integrity and ethical standards within the police force. The officer will appear before the national police disciplinary council in an upcoming session, where a final decision regarding his professional standing will be made.
The case was initiated following a complaint filed by a woman who accused the officer of harassment while he was on duty at the busy Aïn Diab corniche, a popular seaside destination frequented by locals and tourists.
Casablanca police swiftly opened a judicial inquiry under the direction of the prosecutor, ensuring a thorough examination of the allegations.
The suspended officer underwent questioning under the supervision of the judicial authorities and was presented before the court on Wednesday, January 23.
In addition to the legal proceedings, the temporary suspension reflects the DGSN’s commitment to reinforcing professional ethics and good governance within the police force. The agency reiterated its dedication to enforcing the law without bias or discrimination, ensuring that all citizens are treated fairly and justly.
Authorities say that the suspension serves as a precautionary step while the investigation is ongoing, with the final decision to be determined based on the findings of the disciplinary council and judicial process.
