Rabat – Police in Nador, working with officers in Oujda and acting on intelligence from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested a suspect on Thursday evening and seized 1,160 medical tablets.
The case involves drug possession and trafficking, including hallucinogenic pills and smuggled medications that could harm public health.
Earlier the same day, police in Oujda caught two brothers in the act of trafficking drugs and medical tablets, some of which are used for illegal abortions, according to a security source.
Officers found 1,423 tablets of various types and three kilograms of chira (cannabis resin) in their possession.
Authorities placed them under judicial investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor.
Investigators later arrested a third suspect in Nador for suspected involvement in the same network.
A search of his belongings led to the discovery of the additional 1,1160 tablets and a vehicle believed to have been used in the operation.
The authorities have placed the third suspect under judicial investigation to uncover the full scope of the case and any possible national or international connections.
Yesterday, security and customs officers at the Beni Ansar maritime port in Nador foiled an attempt to smuggle 53,400 ecstasy pills.
The operation led to the arrest of two men, aged 20 and 30, suspected to have links to an international drug trafficking network.
