Rabat – Police in Tangier arrested today an individual suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and possession of psychotropic substances.
The arrest occurred in a Tangier neighborhood where an investigation led to apprehending the suspect.
During the search operation, authorities seized 4,266 psychotropic pills of various types, three electronic scales, and cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.
Background checks revealed the suspect is already subject to a national arrest warrant for previous involvement in similar drug trafficking operations.
This prior history suggests the individual may be part of a larger distribution network operating in the region.
The suspect has been placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office.
Authorities are working to uncover the full scope of the operation and identify possible criminal connections.
This arrest comes amid ongoing efforts by Moroccan authorities to combat drug trafficking operations, particularly those involving psychotropic substances, which have seen increasing circulation across the country.
On Tuesday, police seized 17,505 drug pills and arrested four suspects in Tetouan.
Police in Berkane recently arrested a repeat offender and a general practitioner for their involvement in psychotropic drug trafficking
The seizure highlights the continuing challenge faced by law enforcement in addressing drug distribution networks that operate within residential neighborhoods.
Officials have not released the identity of the suspect pending further investigation, as the case remains active as investigators work to map out the full extent of the criminal enterprise.
