Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment and Water has issued an urgent weather alert warning of massive waves set to pound the country’s coastlines beginning Monday afternoon.

The powerful swells, originating from the west to northwest, are expected to reach heights between 4 and 6.5 meters.

According to the ministry’s official statement, the most severe wave activity will be concentrated in two main regions. These are between Tangier Med Port and Cape Spartel and along the Atlantic coastlines stretching from Cape Spartel (Tangier) to Cape Hadid (Essaouira).

These areas will experience peak wave intensity from Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The ministry further warned that strong southwesterly winds will accompany these high seas, beginning Monday morning along the Atlantic coasts between Cape Spartel (Tangier) and Essaouira, before extending to the Strait region by Monday evening.

Officials have raised particular concern regarding high tide periods on Monday and Tuesday, which will occur between 4:30-5:20 AM and again between 4:50-5:30 PM.

During these windows, water levels are expected to rise between 3.20 and 3.80 meters, potentially exacerbating coastal flooding risks when combined with the massive waves.

Weather conditions are expected to improve starting Tuesday afternoon, the ministry noted, adding that additional details will be provided in upcoming weather alert bulletins.
