Rabat – Abdellatif Jouahri, Wali of Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), was ranked among the world’s leading central bank governors in the 2025 Central Banker Report Cards by American financial magazine Global Finance.

Jouahri received an “A” rating, placing him alongside a select group of international leaders. BAM became the only Arab institution to achieve this distinction.

The report evaluates central bank governors from 101 countries, territories, and key regions, including the EU, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, and the central banks of several African countries.

It recognizes governors who achieve results with independence, discipline, and strategic foresight.

In recent years, many central bankers have focused on combating inflation through higher interest rates. According to the report, the results of these challenging decisions are now becoming evident.

The report grades governors on an A-to-F scale, considering performance in controlling inflation, supporting economic growth, maintaining monetary stability, and managing interest rates. An “A” indicates outstanding performance, while an “F” reflects significant failure.

Other central bankers to receive the top grade include Rosanna Costa (Chile), Roger Madrigal Lopez (Costa Rica), Perry Warjiyo (Indonesia), Richard Byles (Jamaica), Kamau Thugge (Kenya), Carlos Carvallo Spalding (Paraguay), Julio Velarde Flores (Peru), and Nandalal Weerasinghe (Sri Lanka).

Founded in 1987, Global Finance circulates 50,000 copies across 185 countries, covering topics such as corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, currencies, banking, and risk management.

This is not the first time Jouahri has received such recognition. In 2024, The Banker, an international financial affairs magazine owned by the Financial Times, named him Africa’s Central Bank Governor of the Year.

The distinction reflected his leadership within the continent’s banking sector and his role in steering Morocco through a period of notable growth and resilience.
