Rabat – Morocco’s National Railways Office (ONCF) says its trains have carried more than 14 million passengers this summer, reaffirming trains as a preferred mode of travel across the country. The surge in passenger numbers reflects Morocco’s intense summer mobility and growing confidence in rail transport.
ONCF attributed this record to expanded services, including additional trains and increased capacity on the busiest routes. Teams across stations, onboard trains, and maintenance centers worked tirelessly to ensure smooth operations, comfort, safety, and high-quality service amid heavy demand.
To sustain this momentum, ONCF will roll out a new integrated service plan starting Monday, September 15. The plan includes temporary adjustments due to the Kenitra–Marrakech High-Speed Rail (LGV) project, such as longer travel times on some routes, the temporary closure of Mers Sultan station, and modified departure schedules on selected lines.
The updated plan also introduces several enhancements for Trains Navette Rapides (TNR) and Al Atlas services. ONCF will launch a direct Safi–Casa Voyageurs route, departing Safi at 7:00 a.m. and returning from Casablanca at 5:05 p.m. On the Taza–Fès line, two additional trains will operate, with departures from Taza at 6:20 a.m. and returns from Fès at 6:20 p.m.
The Ministry of Transport and Logistics, together with ONCF, recently inaugurated the new Taza railway station, a MAD 50 million ($5 million) project that modernizes the city’s rail infrastructure and expands Morocco’s network.
The facility features a 520-square-meter reception hall, a 150-square-meter passenger area, 260 square meters of commercial space, and an 18,300-square-meter esplanade with parking for over 70 cars. The station also ensures seamless connections to Al Hoceima via SUPRATOURS buses.
In addition, ONCF will operate two extra TNR services on the El Jadida–Casa Port route around 7:00 p.m. and introduce new stops at local stations along the Casablanca–Rabat line.
Through these measures, ONCF aims to better connect regions, enhance mobility, and provide passengers with a reliable, efficient, and comfortable travel experience.
