Rabat – Prince Moulay Rachid arrived today in Doha to represent King Mohammed VI at the Arab-Islamic summit, an event bringing together high-level officials and foreign dignitaries to discuss Israel’s recent attack on Doha.
Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Bin Hassan Al Thani, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Affairs, received the Moroccan prince upon his arrival at Hamad International Airport.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, who is leading a delegation to attend the Qatar summit, also greeted the prince.
Other Moroccan officials set to attend the meeting are Mohamed Setri, Morocco’s ambassador to Doha, as well as members of the country’s embassy in Qatar.
Bourita represented Morocco in a preparatory meeting among foreign ministers on Sunday.
During the meeting, Qatari officials said that a resolution will be submitted at the Qatar summit in response to Israel’s attack, which hit a residential compound in an unprecedented strike on Doha on September 9.
Leaders from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League are expected to attend the meeting.
Iran confirmed that its president, Masoud Pezeshkian, will attend the meeting, as well as Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Following Israel’s strike on Doha, Morocco joined the international community to strongly condemning the attack. Morocco reaffirmed that it stands in full solidarity with the Gulf country in the face of the threat that may undermine Qatari security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
Despite the international community’s frustration and condemnation, Israel continues its genocidal war, claiming the lives of tens of thousands of Palestinians.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the situation with Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu in a short visit to Jerusalem. US officials announced that they are displeased with Israel’s strike on Doha.
“The president was not happy about it. We need to move forward and figure out what comes next,” Rubio said.
The US’ remarks do not appear to be a source of concern for Israel, however.
Netanyahu told reporters that Rubio’s visit “is a testament to the durability, the strength, of the Israel-American alliance. It’s as strong and durable as the stones of the Western Wall that we just touched,” Rubio said.
