Rabat – Plasma announced it will launch a mainnet beta on September 25 and will issue a native token named XPL as part of the rollout. The project positioned the mainnet beta as the start of live network testing and the token generation event for XPL.

The team said the chain is purpose-built for stablecoin transfers and payments, rather than for general-purpose smart contracts.

Early communications from the project and reporting by several crypto outlets emphasize that Plasma’s initial features focus on moving dollar-tied tokens cheaply and quickly.

Plasma and several news reports say the network will debut with more than $2 billion in stablecoin liquidity locked or available on day one, and over 100 partners will provide liquidity and integrations when the mainnet beta goes live.

Those partner integrations are intended to give the network immediate utility for payments and lending, according to the project.

The team has highlighted integrations with DeFi platforms and wallets so that stablecoins can be used for transfers, savings, and borrowing right away. However, independent verification of the exact partners and the form of the liquidity is limited in public reporting.

Plasma describes itself as a Layer 1 blockchain optimized for stablecoins and built to support fast, low-cost transfers. The project said a custom consensus design called “PlasmaBFT”  which handles finality and throughput, and that initial features will include fee-free USDT transfers at launch.

According to the announcement, XPL is the chain’s native token and will be used for network security, community ownership, and staged distribution to partners and early users.

Reports say a portion of XPL has been set aside for early adopters and members of Plasma’s stablecoin alliance, with more details expected in the project’s token distribution documents. Market listings and trading availability will follow the token generation event.

Media coverage indicates that Plasma has links to major stablecoin actors and that its launch strategy leans on support from established stablecoin issuers and trading venues.

Some reporting notes ties to Bitfinex-related projects and Tether-affiliated liquidity, which helps explain the team’s confidence in bringing large stablecoin volumes to the chain.

Plasma’s stated aim is to become an infrastructure layer for global stablecoin movement, offering cheap transfers and deep liquidity.

Observers and market data trackers have added the token and chain to their watchlists; price feeds and exchange listings will appear only after trading begins. Meanwhile, independent market data providers note that price history is not yet available.
