Rabat – French transport company Alstom has secured a contract worth €260 million to modernize the main railway line between Kenitra and Settat in Morocco.
The deal was signed with a consortium including Alstom, INEO Rail, and INEOLUM, said Alstom in a press release.
Alstom’s share of the contract is valued at €150 million. The project will cover the design, supply, and installation of a complete system that includes signaling, telecommunications, cabling, and power supply.
As part of the agreement, Alstom will deliver its Onvia Control signaling system based on ERTMS Level 1 technology. This will increase safety, punctuality, and capacity on the line. INEO Rail and INEOLUM will handle telecommunications, electrical supply, and installation works.
The upgrades are expected to ease train traffic and reduce the railway’s carbon footprint.

Morocco is undergoing a significant transformation in its rail sector. The cornerstone of this transformation is the 2040 Rail Strategy, a comprehensive plan aiming to expand the national rail network to 4,100 kilometers, connecting 43 cities and serving 87% of the population.
A key component of this strategy is the development of the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail line, a 430-kilometer corridor set to reduce travel times between Tangier and Marrakech to just under three hours.
This project is part of a broader $10.3 billion investment plan, which includes the acquisition of 168 new trains from France, Spain, and South Korea. These trains are expected to significantly improve connectivity and support the country’s role as a co-host of the 2030 World Cup.
