The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Director for Morocco, Haytham Eissa, commended the remarkable progress achieved by the North African country.
“Morocco has made remarkable progress, notably in developing world-class infrastructure, accelerating the transition to renewable energy, promoting financial inclusion, and strengthening its institutional framework,” Eissa said in an interview with MAP on the sidelines of the “Women in Business: Breaking Barriers for Women Entrepreneurs – A €1 Billion Impact” conference held Wednesday in Casablanca.
According to Eissa, the EBRD views Morocco’s transformation as a clear demonstration of the country’s long-term vision, strategic leadership, and steadfast commitment to sustainable development, noting that climate action lies at the heart of this approach.
He added that Morocco has firmly positioned itself as a regional leader in the green transition by setting ambitious targets and taking concrete steps to decarbonize its economy.
The EBRD official also underlined that Morocco has built a strong reputation as a leading reformer in North Africa, attracting high levels of foreign direct investment (FDI) and financing for the development of its export-oriented industries.
“The Kingdom’s success in becoming a major hub for automobile production is a best practice example that we have frequently cited in our flagship reports,” he said.
Eissa also commended the resilience of Morocco’s economy amid a challenging global environment, supported by the maintenance of macroeconomic stability through the country’s prudent policies.
“Despite the impact of drought on agriculture, Morocco’s economy has demonstrated diversification, with strong resilience in the manufacturing sector,” he noted, estimating that growth, which stands around 3%, is expected to increase further, driven by robust public investment, expanding exports, and private sector activity.
