Rabat — Morocco’s road network spans approximately 48,000 kilometers of paved roads, Equipment and Water Minister Nizar Baraka announced Monday in Rabat.
The minister made the statement while addressing a parliamentary question about the maintenance and expansion program for the national and regional road network.
Baraka stressed that his department dedicates significant resources to road maintenance, allocating 46% of the total road sector budget to upkeep efforts.
“Improving road quality stands at the heart of the ministry’s priorities,” Baraka said. He noted that 66% of the road network currently ranks in good to excellent condition, adding that the ministry aims to increase this figure to 80% by 2030.
The minister also pointed to the government’s focus on upgrading roads that are subject to high-traffic accident rates. These improvements form part of broader efforts to enhance safety and road quality for all users.
Morocco’s road maintenance strategy reflects a balanced approach between preserving existing infrastructure and expanding the network to meet growing transportation needs across the country.
The North African country has taken bold steps to improve its road infrastructure, especially as AFCON approaches, which will take place in multiple Moroccan cities.
