Moroccos U17 women’s team got eliminated out of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after suffering a pretty difficult 6-1 loss at the hands of defending champions Korea DPR in the Round 16 match.
Things started going bad for Morocco straight off the whistle, with Korea DPR scoring one in almost as soon as play got underway. Then in the ten minutes later the North Koreans doubled their lead from a direct corner.
Moroccans did manage to have a glimmer of hope when they had a chance in the 18th minute, but Korea’s defence stood strong.
Before the first half whistle, Korea DPR chipped in with not one, but two more goals – a beauty of a free kick in the 41st minute and then an own goal just a minute later – and Morocco were 4-0 down at the break.
In the second half, Korea piled on, adding two more, including a hammer-blow of a free kick from their skipper in the 70th minute. Morocco managed to pull a consolation out of the bag in the 88th minute, a beauty through Ferkous – who will have at least something to celebrate.
Morocco’s young stars have actually made some history in this tournament already – scoring their first ever World Cup goal, winning their very first World Cup game against Costa Rica, and making the Round of 16 in just their second ever World Cup appearance.
The future looks bright for the Atlas Lionesses, especially with the next four U17 Women’s World Cups being held in Morocco. This tournament will give them something to really build on, and they’ll be back stronger than ever.
