Rabat — After a few weeks of recovery, Marseille will welcome back Nayef Aguerd this weekend as the Morocco international returns to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad after missing the last two matches due to injury.
The center-back has been out since November 8 when he was forced off during OM’s 3–0 win over Brest with symptoms of pubalgia. His absence coincided with a tough period for the defensive unit which has been stretched by multiple injuries over the last month.
Aguerd’s recovery has been closely monitored by the medical staff especially as he was also withdrawn from Morocco’s November internationals. He was initially called up by Walid Regragui but was ruled out shortly after, missing friendly matches against Mozambique and Uganda while continuing treatment in Marseille. OM were cautious in their approach, prioritising long-term stability to avoid aggravating the chronic nature of pubalgia.
In his press conference on Friday November 28, De Zerbi confirmed the news we had all been waiting for. “Aguerd should be back in the squad, and that is all,” the Italian coach said, stressing both the importance of the player and the need to reintegrate him carefully.

The staff will manage his workload as pubalgia can be unpredictable and requires controlled progression in match rhythm.
Aguerd’s return is big news on several fronts. For Marseille it means an experienced left-footed central defender who can stabilise the backline and improve their build-up play — a key part of De Zerbi’s system.
For Morocco his return to competition is also good news, with the African Cup of Nations approaching.
Aguerd will be part of the squad against Toulouse this Saturday but his playing time will depend on how he reacts in the last training sessions.
