Raouf Belkacemi stirred online backlash for a viral video during the Algeria–DR Congo match at the AFCON, in which he claimed he had urinated inside the stadium so that Moroccans would smell it without knowing its source.
He also shared a video showing what appeared to be liquid traces on the stadium floor. The situation sparked widespread criticism from Moroccan social media users.
Belkacemi later said during a live stream on Kick that the substance shown was not urine but a spilled drink behind him, which he said he used to stage the video.
Some media outlets have since reported that he was allegedly arrested in Casablanca, though no official confirmation has been issued by authorities.
A series of incidents has sparked widespread uproar online, with viral videos showing content creators making hostile and inflammatory comments toward Morocco.
In one case, a creator directly attacked Moroccans and criticized their hospitality toward visiting fans during AFCON. Tensions escalated further when Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura mocked Michel Nkuka Mboladinga, the famous DR Congo superfan known as “Lumumba Vea,” drawing heavy backlash.
Algerian journalist Khadija Ben Guenna also faced criticism after remarks widely perceived as disrespectful and racially insensitive toward the same Congolese supporter.
After the match, Benguenna posted a photo of a Congolese fan with a caption that roughly translates to, “Shame, honestly, this ‘creature’ stood for 120 minutes.”
The Congolese fan became one of the most striking figures of AFCON 2025 after appearing in the stands dressed as Patrice Lumumba, the Congolese independence hero and leading pan-African figure.
