Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) said heavy rainfall and strong winds, as well as snow, are expected to continue until Tuesday, affecting several provinces across the country.
The weather office said heavy rains and thunderstorms with a risk of hail will affect several provinces, including the North. Rainfall between 40 and 90 millimeters are expected to hit Tangier-Assilah, M’Diq-Fnideq, Fahs-Anjra, Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Larache, and Ouezzane.
Rainfall between 30 and 40 millimeters are expected in other provinces like Kentira, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Taza, Ifrane, Sefrou, and Meknes, as well as Fez, El Hajeb, Moulay Yaacoub, Al Hoceima, and Sidi Slimane on Monday from 3 p.m to 11 p.m
Strong winds of 85 to 100 kilometers per hour are expected to hit several provinces in the Oriental region and others. Starting this morning at 10:30 a.m. strong winds are expected to continue until 9 p.m. in Jerada, Figuig, Taourirt, Boulemane, Midelt, Guercif, Taza, and Tinghir.
The same weather will concern Ouarzazate, Fez, Meknes, El Hajeb, Oujda-Angad, Berkane, Nador, Driouch, Sefrou, Moulay Yaacoub, Ifrane, Zagora, Taroudant, Tata, Tiznit, and Sidi Ifni.
Tomorrow, from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fahs-Anjra, M’Diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Taza, Guercif, Nador, Taourirt, Oujda Angad, Boulemane, and Midelt are expected to experience the same weather.
Wind and strong rainfall will also be accompanied by snowfall in several regions, with snow ranging between 10 and 20 centimeters above 1,800 meters starting this morning to 11 p.m. in the provinces of Boulemane, Guercif, Taza, and Sefrou.
Provinces across the country have been witnessing heavy rainfall since mid-November, causing floods and rising water levels in major dams.
Moroccan authorities continue to be mobilized in several provinces and flood-prone areas to mitigate the crisis.
Moroccan authorities also evacuated 000 people from 154 flooded areas, especially in Sidi Kacem and Ksar El Kebir.
Classes have also been suspended in several provinces due to weather disruptions, with the Ministry of Education pledging efforts to tackle the situation and offering online videos that assist students in making up classes.
