Rabat – The wholesale market for fruits and vegetables in Ksar El Kebir is seeing a strong supply of products again after recent floods that disrupted the region.
Officials say the market has fully returned to its normal activity, which would help meet the needs of local residents and nearby towns, especially as Ramadan is fast-approaching.
After weeks of unusually heavy rain and difficult road conditions, life in the city is gradually returning to normal. The heavy rain filled the nearby dams, including Oued El Makhazin, above their capacity, with water levels in the Loukous River increasing.
Ksar El Kebir was the hardest hit in the region, with the majority of its neighbourhood flooded. This prompted authorities to evacuate residents to nearby cities and shelters.
As the situation stabilized and weather conditions went back to normal, residents started coming back to the city on Sunday.
The wholesale market, which plays an important role in supplying food to the area, has resumed its regular pace. Traders and customers are once again moving through the market in a steady flow.
Abderrahman Ouakrim, Deputy Director of the wholesale market in Ksar El Kebir, told Morocco’s news agency that the market continued to operate even during the peak of the weather disturbances. He explained that services were never completely stopped, but added that commercial activity has now returned to its usual level. Fruits and vegetables are currently available in large quantities.
Moussa Kouida, President of the “Lixus” Association of fruit and vegetable traders, also confirmed that business has resumed under good conditions. He said all agricultural products are available at the market and that supply is expected to remain stable in the coming days.
